A few weeks ago we went to the BEACH with my parents. The last time we went to the beach the boys were 6 months and 2 1/2 years old. Let me just say with enthusiasm: THIS WAS WAY MORE FUN.
Tristan is a little fish. It was still a little cold when we went but he didn't care. He stayed in those waves until his lips turned blue and he was shaking like a jelly fish. Thank goodness Mark loves the water so much (and is such a great dad!!!) Together they made some beautiful memories out there, splishing and splashing for hours and hours. T would stand in attack mode, ready for any and every wave that came his way, most of them twice as tall as he is. I would scream every. single. time. I wonder if this gets easier as they get bigger...? Or if I'll always feel like part of my body is out there, ready to be overtaken by a gigantic wave at any second...?
Pierce had a fantastic time too but he was very content to hunt for seashells and build sand castles. As the days went on, he became more and more fascinated with the baby powder. (***Beach tip: Sprinkle baby powder to knock off the pesky sand that seems to just STICK after a day at the beach.)
We ate at several great restaurants and the kids became excellent taste testers of every single fried shrimp basket on the coast. We even ate at one restaurant where the waiters and waitresses danced on top of the tables to songs like YMCA. (which led to a very interesting conversation about a week later when Pierce told a young girl at the grocery store, "You look just like those girls that were dancing on top of the tables the other night!")
The highlight may have been our nighttime crab hunts. The boys looked forward to them all day long and can still remember how many crabs we caught every night and who caught them.
We collected seashells and glued them onto wooden picture frames when we got home as a souvenir. The boys picked out their favorite pictures and have them proudly displayed in their rooms.
A big huge special thanks to my mom and dad for making all the reservations and plans and putting up with our rowdy, very excited, totally worn out at the end of each day bunch.
We can hardly wait to do it all again!
